World Travel World Travel Other Travelogues / Diaries that I've found on the net. There's quite a few budding travel writers out there! Back | Home | Travel

As I've been travelling I've got quite interested in what other people have written about the places I've been, or even just what other people have written whilst travelling... specifically other peoples ongoing travelogues and I was just a little surprised to find just how much has actually been written! Here's a collection of sites that caught my eye as being pretty damn comprehensive or just seemed pretty cool. There's alot of hard graft out there! To have a gander at my current travel diary through South East Asia and Australia, click here.

I've divided the sites up into personal travel diaries / travelogues and sites that I consider to be encroaching on the professional. Apart from that, they are in no particular order...

You might like to also check out the Yahoo Directory of ongoing Travelogues too - as some of these also appear there. Mine doesn't, but hey.

 Ongoing Travelogues...
  • Overland from England to Australia
    www.oland.co.uk
It's massive! Steven Abrams diary of his overland journey from England to Australia over almost three years between October 1968 and August 1971. As it was back then! Man, this is travelling! He has been rewriting his online journal over the past few years, from the diary he kept at the time. I can't imagine taking diarrhoea tablets for 5 months, instead of the Malaria ones was too pleasant either! But how come you had so many diarrhoea tablets? Expecting the worst?!

  • Chris Melikian's Travelling Tales...
    www.mekondelta.com/blog - the words
    www.mekondelta.com/gallery - the pictures
My mate Chris's ongoing travelling adventure. Tops! Really well written and loads of great photos! He left the UK for India on the 2nd Oct 2003, currently in Nepal (end of Nov) and is on his way through Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Bali, Australia, New Zealand, LA and finally NY by July 2004.

  • Jessy Adventures
    www.jessy-adventures.freeservers.com
Jessica Hagenaars left the Netherlands in February 2003 to travel round Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. This is her journal and a mass of photos from the joyful experience (more coming in March 2004). I met Jess at Elke's Backpacker Hostel in Darwin, Australia where we spent a fair while juggling balls on the beach! Great fun!

  • Ultimate Journey
    www.ultimatejourney.com
“Hi, we are Erin & Chris... former New York City dwellers for whom life was going pretty well. We always enjoyed motorcycling and traveling, and slowly realized that our annual 2-week summer vacation just wasn't enough. So, we quit our jobs, sold our apartment (huge profit), our furniture, donated most of our clothing, and became instant minimalists. With Passports, Carnets, and other paperwork theoretically in order, we loaded our tent, remaining clothing, and other worldly possessions onto two BMW motorcycles.” Almost 4 years of travelling and still going. I originally found the site because they've detailed their account of The Great Nullarbor Plain - Esperance to Adelaide.

  • Three Years on the Road by Brett Davis
    www.shoal.net.au/~brettdavis/book.html
From 1995 to 1998 Karen and Brett travelled around Australia by pushbike. It's an entire book! They did the Nullarbor too!

  • dirtymouse.net
    dirtymouse.net
I think it's a personal website?! I think he may be a budding DJ or something?! They've also been travelling around Australia and have some really nice photos and images. They've been across the Nullarbor and the Great Ocean Road blardy blah...
